Floyd County High School’s varsity softball team, the defending state champs who started the season with an uncharacteristic two losses, scored their first win for this year with a 6-2 victory over the Pulaski County Cougars at home Wednesday.

Riley Underwood paced the Floyd County hitting with a two-run home run and a double in the game which saw the Buffaloes lead 6-0 until Pulaski scored with a two-run home run late in the game.

Ashley Gallimore struck out seven and allowed just one hit during her four innings on the pitcher’s mound.

Weather permitting Thursday, the Buffs hope to avenge an an early season loss against Christiansburg with a home game that starts at 5 p.m.
