Seventh-inning hit spoils perfect game

050214baseball1Radford High School varsity baseball pitcher Luke Phillips was two outs away from a perfect game against the Buffaloes at Floyd County High School Friday when Josh Gallimore connected with the ball for a hit in the seventh inning.

Two runners reached base in the bottom of the seventh with one safe at first because of an error.

Radford downed Floyd 5-1 in a Three Rivers contest, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 district record and 8-2 overall for the season.

Floyd is 1-3 in district play and 4-9 overall in what has been a tough season for the Buffaloes.
