The Memorial Day Weekend kicks off with lots of activity in Floyd County.

Five track teams gather at the athletic fields at Floyd County High School, starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, for conference meet that will help decide who goes to the state track meet in Salem.

Besides Floyd, teams from Giles, Glenvar, James River and Martinsville will compete.

The Friday Night Jamboree celebrates the start of the summer season at the Country Store at 6:30 p.m. and warm weather should bring a large group of musicians to the streets as well.

The 4th Annual Chantilly Farms & BBQ Festival highlights Saturday on Franklin Pike with music, food and more from 11 a.m to 10 p.m.

The bands include Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, The Boxcars, Balsam Range, Junior Sisk & Rambler’s Choice and Jeff Brown & Still Lonesome.

The young Blackberries open the show, followed by Gravel Road, the Mary Jo and Charlie Show with guests.  The Back Porch Cloggers will provide entertainment between shows.

Besides food, an antique tractor show, kite flying, children’s activities and a motorcycle poker run are scheduled.
