King William High School, after ruining Floyd County’s hopes for a repeat state softball championship with a 12-2 rout on Friday, couldn’t seal the deal Saturday, dropping the title game to Page County 5-2 in the final at Radford University.

A critical error sealed the fate of the heavily-favored King William, leading 2-1 in the top of the seventh and final inning when Allison Breeden sent a pop fly into foul territory with two out, but catcher Megan Jenkins couldn’t make the catch.

Breeden then hit a three-run triple that put the Page County Panthers ahead 4-2 and relief pitcher Rachel McCoy added another run with a RBI single.
