A warning for all students at Floyd County public schools:  Get your sun and fun in this week.  Hit the pool. This is the last week of the rapidly-vanishing item known as the summer recess.

School starts on August 12 — next week — and means an end to fun, frolic, swimming pools and similar diversions.

If it seems like the school year begins each year earlier and earlier, it’s true.  With weather causing school closings more frequently and other scheduling that causes more canceled classes, the year begins early and — if weather gets in the way — stays open later in the Spring.

So enjoy yourselves today — classes starts next week and football season begins shortly afterwards.
