The bidding war to buy Family Dollar stores will probably cost Floyd one of its two dollar store outlets in town.

With Family Dollar on Virginia Route 8 north and Dollar General on U.S. 221 north — both just outside the town of Floyd limits — the Family Dollar would most likely go bye bye is rival Dollar General succeeds in its $9.7 billion bid to buy out the other folks.

Another rival, Dollar Tree, offered to buy out Family Dollar and a bidding war erupted.  Dollar General now holds the lead and Forbes reported late Monday that Wall Street expects Dollar General to win the war.

Family Dollar started trimming stores last year and some wondered if the Floyd opeation would be a casualty in the dollar store wars.
