For a while in  the second varsity football game of the season, Floyd County High School’s Buffaloes matched an opponent point for point for a tie score.

The Buffs fell behind Galax 14-0 early in a game delayed by storms Friday night but Floyd stormed back with a kickoff return that turned into a touchdown and a second quick score that tied up the match with more than nine minutes remaining in the first quarter.

The Galax’s Maroon tied used turnovers, including two that stopped drives by the Buffaloes deep into scoring territory and carried a 35-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Floyd scored two more times in the second half but Galax scored more and gave the Buffaloes its second straight loss — 55-28.
