Floyd County High School’s varsity volleyball team continued on its winning rampage Tuesday night with a 3-0 rout of Appomattox at home for the Regional opener.
It was also a game with a highly charged crowd who cheered the Buffaloes on to victory.
Those attending saw the Buffs take the sets 25-17, 25-18 and 25-19.
They cheered strong serves by Mackenzie Ambrose and Cassie Muncy, Riley Underwood’s dominant hitting and Ariana Agnew and Haley Avancini’s blocks limited Appomattox’s scoring.
While Appomattox managed to lead a few times in the matches, the Buffaloes controlled the game and were never seriously challenged.
The strong victory comes after last Thursday’s 3-1, hard-fought win over Glenvar for the Conference Championship.
The Buffaloes fought off close threats in two of the four matches and overcame a 22-17 deficit to clinch the win and the championship trophy.
The team heads to Buchanan Thursday night for round two of the regional tournament, facing Union at James River High School.
A win there would sent them to the regional final on Saturday.
