The snow may be melting (slowly) but most weather experts, along with the solid black woolly worms, say the worst is yet to come.

Storms now sweeping across the Midwest will bring colder weather and more snow, freezing rain and ice to our area in the coming days, weeks and months.

What does this mean for us? Here’s what the National Weather Service forecasts for the next few days:

Wednesday: Periods of sleet and freezing rain late.

Thursday: Ice early, then rain. Rain and drizzle in the evening followed by a mix of snow and rain late.

Next Tuesday (a week from today): Mostly cloudy and cold; snow at times late.

Jan 11: Periods of snow.

Temperatures? Cold, cold and more cold. Lows in the teens. Wind chills in single digits.

It’s going to be a long winter.
