An overflow crowd packed the Floyd County Courthouse Circuit Court room late Tuesday afternoon for the formal swearing in and “investiture” of Stephanie Murray Shortt as the new Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judge for the 27th Judicial District of Virginia.
Shortt gave up her position as Commonwealth’s Attorney in Floyd to accept a six-year term in the position and will serve in Radford and Giles County.
Circuit Judge Marc Long, who served as a JDR judge before accepting his current position, swore in Shortt and talked of her “compassion” and dedication to the law and the court.
A reception followed in the reception hall of The Bank of Floyd.
