Cold weather closed Floyd County schools Thursday. Not snow. Not ice. Just damn cold weather hovering around zero or below at some spots in the county and highs of 22-24 expected for the day.
The weather station on one of our outbuildings showed one degree at 5 a.m. Thursday.
That’s cold.
With the wind added the wind chill was -18.
That’s even colder.
At 5:35 a.m., the reading dropped to zero.
At this location, the temperature has not gone below zero since 2005.
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg says a wind advisory remains in effect until noon Thursday, turning the cold into biting conditions that can lead to hypothermia.
Projected high today? Only about 22 to 24 degrees.
Damn baby, it’s cold outside.
