Floyd County Schools are closed for Wednesday after overnight rain, ice and snow fell throughout the area.

Road conditions range from somewhat passable on major highways like U.S. 221 and Virginia Rte. 8 to slick and dangerous on secondaries.

Police report a rash of accidents from early evening Tuesday to early Wednesday.

Low hit 20 and below overnight.

With light snow falling in parts of Floyd County at 6:30 a.m. Thursday and temperatures climbing no higher than 40 throughout the day, conditions are not expected to improve.
