Melting ice at Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Temperatures in the 50s and — in some areas — 60s began the big thaw of 2010 over the last couple of days although overnight lows below freezing brought ice back on roads and sidewalks for the morning hours.

Another round of melting is expected Saturday and Sunday — with rain helping on Sunday — and the higher temperatures will remain for Monday.
