Another day of snow, another cancellation of classes at the schools, another postponement of a postseason basketball game.
Another mess.
The storm that moved into the area Thursday night erased progress of melting from the last round and created another morning business commute mess for those who have to go to work.
A trip to work or school is not necessary for Floyd County, which managed to get its first day of classes in Wednesday for the first time in eight days. Now school is out for Thursday and the possibility for Friday is iffy as snow continues to fall at 6 a.m. Thursday.
The approaching storm also cancelled Floyd County High School’s conference 38 2A final at James River High School at Buchanan Wednesday night. The game is now scheduled for Friday night at James River.
A day-long retreat Thursday on Floyd County’s growing tourism industry was also postponed and rescheduled for March 10 at Hotel Floyd.
The weather gauge for Blue Ridge Muse shows just under four inches on the ground. Most nearby areas are reporting 4-6 inches on the ground.
More snow fell in areas closer to North Carolina and to the East of the area.
Temperatures Thursday expected to reach 35 in Floyd County, dropping to 19 overnight and only 25 on Friday with a low of nine by early Saturday morning. Saturday won’t be much warmer with a high 28 and a low of 10. Some freezing and rain may fall on Sunday with a high of 33 and a low of 29, then a warmup to 50 with rain on Monday and then more rain through next week with highs ranging from 39 to 52 and lows from 24 to 37.
The National Weather Service says the current storm warning expires at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Basketball isn’t the only sport delayed by weather. The indoor track state meet in Lynchburg was also postponed until next week. FCHS has several athletes who will be competing at the state level in indoor track.
