Floyd Count High School’s Lady Buffaloes took on Clarke County’s Eagles in the 2A girls’ basketball final and delivered a 29-point victory, 65-36, a decisive victory that pits FCHS against Wise Central in the title game Wednesday.
Ragan Wiseman led Buffalo scoring with 20 points, followed by Carley Lytton and Emily Boothe with 14 each.
Clarke County, from Berryville up in Northern Virginia about 60 miles from Washington, DC, knocked the Lady Buffs out of the state tournament several years ago and has also lost to Floyd in the past.
They were expected to be tough but the Lady Buffs led 37-21 at the half and never looked back. The last three-points of that lead came from a half-court shot from Lytton at the buzzer ending the half.
Lytton told reporters after the semi-final victory Tuesday the team wants another shot at Wise Central, which won the region final last week.
“That wasn’t us,” she said of the team that lost to Wise Central last week. “We are looking forward to a rematch.”
The game starts at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Siegal Center.
