Snow…again

Snow began falling in the region about 5 a.m. According to the National Weather Service, the accumulation will be somewhere between 2 and 6 inches, depending on where you live.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says U.S. 221 and Virginia Rte. 8 are “passable” but warn of “potential icy conditions.”  Secondary roads? One word: Slick.

Schools remain closed today. Other cancellations may follow.

We’ll keep an eye on things and update through the day.

UPDATE (11:30 a.m.) Roanoke has about three inches on the ground but the snow stopped in Floyd after about a half-inch fell before daylight. The forecast still calls for some “wintry mix” in the afternoon.
