The annual Gun Show and Flea Market in Hillsville kicks off Friday for the long Labor Day weekend and brings sights, sounds, food and — of course — weapons.

Many who live in Hillsville plan out-of-the-area events to stay way from the extravaganza to the show that brings more than 100,000 people to the county seat of Carroll County for four days.

Others run makeshift parking lots on their yards and backyards.

Some Floyd Countians say they have to go at least one day. Others say they stay away for “sanity’s sake.”
