UPDATE: AEP reported power restored to most county homes by mid-afternoon.
More than 600 customers of Appalachian Power Company lost power in Floyd County lost this morning as winds and drifting snow swept across the area.
AEP said 603 homes and businesses went dark along with 148 customers in Montgomery County.
The power outages weren’t the only problem. The awning on the front of Chick’s Antiques on South Main Street collapsed under the weight of snow and ice Monday evening, breaking out a front window of the store and leaving debris scattered over the sidewalk and street.
