Schools reopen in Floyd County today after more than two weeks and the wet stuff falling from the skies is rain, not snow.
Classes will start one hour late.
Temperatures in the 50s helped some of the snow melt but heavy accumulations remain in shady and north-facing areas. Daytime highs are expected to remain above freezing for most of the week although snow showers may hit us overnight on a couple of nights.
Is the worst over? Opinions vary. Some weather forecasters think we’re in for at least one more blast from winter as we head into March and daily temperatures — while above the bitter cold of recent weeks — continue lower than normal.
Black ice remains a threat on bridges and shaded secondary roads. Be careful.
