Floyd County High School’s Buffaloes finished off the regular basketball season with a four-game sweep of Glenvar in a rare Saturday afternoon series of game created by weather delays.

The Lady Buffaloes wiped out the Highlanders 66-43 for an undefeated Three Rivers District season and the boys Varsity put the finishing touches on a tight game that bounded back and forth before winning 74-66.

The JV teams also won in a long day of basketball that began at the high school gym at 11 a.m. and went into the late afternoon hours with freezing temperatures outside.

The Glenvar mathup was originally scheduled, then postponed a first time, as the basketball homecoming match but school officials decided the weather could be a problem for bringing in the candidates for queen, long with other logistical problems.

The homecoming ceremony is now tenetively scheduled for the first round of the Conference playoffs at Floyd Monday night but weather may be a factor again with a winter storm watch promising snow and ice so it may be delayed again.

Conference opponent Giles will also introduce its senior at what for them will be an away game at the conference opener.
