Floyd County High School’s Lady Buffaloes took Saturday’s Virginia High School League’s State Quarterfinal match 69-57 over the Lady Bison from Buffalo Gap in a hard-fought match.
Buffalo Gap took the lead shortly after the game started and led 31-26 at the half but Floyd but never let the Lady Bison get too far ahead and closed to within two points more than once before taking the lead in the fourth quarter and built on it.
With a minute and four seconds to go, coaches Alan and Travis Cantrell took the starters out with the score 69-55 with Natalie Boothe topping a list of four players in double digits with 19 points, Regan Wiseman at second with 18, and Ashley Gallimore and Abigail Belshan at 12 apiece.
Wiseman, still recovering from a severe sprained angle from the Regional Semi-Finals in Wise last week, downed a key three pointer to help the Lady Buffs obtain the lead and her marksmanship at the foul line also helped put the game away.
The win puts the Lady Buffs in the final four at the Seigel Center in Richmond and they will meet Ridgeview, which beat them in the Regionals in Wise, on Thursday evening. A win there will take them to the championship game on Saturday afternoon.
