A sellout crowd packed The Barn at Chantilly Farms near Floyd Sunday night for the completion of a tour promoting the new CD of Lonesome River Band with Sammy Shelor on banjo, Brandon Rickman on guitar, Mike Hartgrove on fiddle, Barry Reed on bass and Randy Jones on mandolin and vocals.

Shelor, of Meadows of Dan, is a five-time International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Banjo Player of hte Year, Virginia Country Music Hall of Famer and winner of the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence for Banjo and Bluegrass. He joined Martin on stage of the Late Show of David Letterman on November 11, 2011.

Lonesome River has 17 albums in 34 years of performing Bluegrass on many stages, including the Grand Old Opry and received the 2012 International Bluegrass Music Association Award for Instrumental Recorded Event of the Year for their song, Angeline the Baker, from their Chronology Volume One album — just one of a number of awards and honors.

The band opened its set with songs from its new Album: “Bridging Tradition” and the crowd loved the show. Editing on video from the night will be completed and posted on Tuesday, March 22.

Lonesome River will be a headline act at the annual Chantilly Farm Bluegrass Festival May 27-28 in Floyd County.
