Yes, it’s cold outside…and rain is coming

010210thermometerThe thermometer on top of one of our sheds sent the temperature this morning to the computer — 38 degrees at 0400 (that’s 4 a.m.).

That’s cold, especially for the 15th of May.

And we’re in the middle of a freeze warning.

The National Weather Service office in Blacksburg claims the high today will be about 62 — a little warmer than Sunday — but still pretty cool for that is supposed to be the last full month of Spring.

Summer arrives next month.  Summer means it’s supposed to be warm.  Or at least that’s what used to be the norm.

Those who stick their heads in the sand deny climate change exists in this world.

Uh, huh.

To make matters worse, the forecast for the rest of the week says highs only in the 60s with lows in the 50s and 40s.

And oh yes, the forecast also says rain moves back into the area Tuesday with thunderstorms and 80 percent chance of wet stuff Tuesday, showers and 50 percent Wednesday, morning showers on Thursday and PM shows on Friday before another day of 80 percent chance of rain on Saturday.

Then, those who guess the weather and calls those guesses say temperatures will climb back into the 70s early next week and the 80s with less chance of rain as we head into Memorial Day weekend.

Right now, however, rain looks to be in the forecast for the Chantilly Farm BBQ and Bluegrass Festival over the Memorial Day weekend.

Maybe the forecasts will chance as Memorial Day approaches.  Maybe the guesses that are called “forecasts” will be wrong.

Maybe pigs will fly.
