Floyd County varsity track standouts scored wins in shot, discus, 3,200 relay, 1600 meter run, triple jump, 300 hurdles and posted strong finishes in other events.
Saira Akers topped her previous shot put record with a toss of 40 feet and one half inch to claim the title while Daryn Hughes took the boys title with a new best of 54 foot, five and one half inches. Jade Sutherland won discus.
Caleb Agee took wins in the boys triple jump (42-2) and the 300 hurdles (42-4).
Abigail Belshan won the girls 800, Chloe Phillips the 1,600.
FCHS girls finished third overall in team scoring and several FCHS boys and girls track team members will take on opponents at the Regional tournament Wednesday at Radford University.
Roger Mannon will have the complete story and all finished on the tournament, that started early at noon on Friday and while dampened with sprinkles on and off throughout the afternoon, finished before 5 p.m. and the arrival of harder downpours. More photos in next week’s Floyd Press.
