The weekend, and a forecast of hot, hot weather, also provides a short but much-needed break from political conventions.  Those who enjoy life in Southwestern Virginia can listen to music, dance and bask in what the area offers.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg predicts temperatures into the high 80s with heat indexes reaching 100.  Remember your sunscreen and drink lots of water.

Chantilly Farms offers Family Campout this weekend for Friday and Saturday.  Floyd County Buffalo Boosters host a golf tournament at Great Oaks Country Club from 12:30 to 5 p.m. on Friday.

The Floyd Artisan Market kicks off at Community Pavilion at 205 South Locust St. at 5 p.m. and runs until 8.

Music on The Streets runs along South Locust throughout Friday night.

At The Floyd Country Store at 206 S. Locust, The Geneva Convention kicks off The Friday Night Jamboree at 6:30 p.m. with Geneva Convention for the Gospel Hour, followed by The Tune Town String Band at 7:30 p.m. and Mac Traynham & Friends at 9 p.m.

Dogtown Roadhouse has Mad Iguanas at 8 p.m. at 302 S. Locust St.

Saturday, July 23

Floyd Farmers Market at the Community Pavilion, 205 S. Locust St. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Americana Afternoon at Floyd Country Store, 206 S. Locust St., starting at noon with Carrington Kay, followed by Bradley Steele at 1:15 p.m. and Chico at 2:15 p.m.

Wildwood Farms features The Mountain Park Old Time Band from 7-9 p.m. at 2380 Floyd Hwy S.

Oak Grove Pavilion has CSM from 7 – 9:30 p.m. at 365 Needmore Lane.

Pine Tavern Pavilion features the Morgan Wade Band & The Floorboards from 8-11:30 p.m. at 585 Floyd Hwy N.

One Way Ride hits the stage at 8 p.m. at Dogtown Roadhouse, 302 S. Locust.

Sunday, July 24

Sunday Sounds, Chateau Morrisette Winery, 287 Winery RD (MP 171 off The Blue Ridge Parkway) from 1-5 p.m.

Sunday Music Jam at the Floyd Country Store, 1:30-6 p.m.

Open Mic Night at Dogtown Roadhouse, 6-10 p.m.
