A busy weekend

We head into the final weekend of August with the high school football season kicking off and lots of activities for just about everyone.

Looks like weather should cooperate in and around Floyd County.

The thermometer is heating up again but not at the stifling hot, humid levels of recent weeks and the outlook for rain is for “scattered thunderstorms” for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Friday night kicks off with the Floyd Artisan Market at the Community Market Pavilion from 5-9 p.m. at 206 South Locust Street in downtown Floyd.

The Friday Night Jamboree opens the Country Store with Fort Vause at 6:30 p.m., followed by The Clyde Williams Band at 7:30 and The Modock Rounders at 9.

Floyd County High School opens its 2016 varsity football season against Carroll County High in Hillsville at 7 p.m.

Music should surround fans on South Locust Street with bands playing at various locations on the sidewalks and crannies.

Dogtown Roadhouse features Monster Atlantic at 302 South Locust from 8-11 p.m.

Saturday, August 27

The Miss Floyd County Fair Pageant at Chantilly Farm at 2697 Franklin Pike.

Summer Qigong Wellness Seminar at Hotel Floyd, 300 Rick Lewis Way.

Floyd Farmers Market at the Community Pavilion, 205 S. Locust St. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Jivamukti Yoga with Mary Brown at The June Bug Center.  10-11:30 a.m.

Chef Series at Foggy Ridge Cider, featuring Maples Restaurant, 1328 Pineview Rd., Dugspur. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

American Afternoon at The Floyd Country Store, 206 S. Locust, featuring “Songwriters in the Round” hosted by Britt Mistele with guests David Simpkins, Greg Trfidlo, Mike Franke and Kathy Acosta from noon to 3 p.m.

Scott Perry Student Showcase at The Floyd Country Store from 3-4 p.m.

Wildwood Farms General Store hosts the Loose Strings Band from 7-9 p.m. at 2380 Floyd Hwy S.

Steph Custer is on stage at Oak Grove Pavilion, 365 Needmore Lane, Floyd, from 7 -9:30 p.m.

Melodime at Dogtown Roadhouse, 302 S. Locust St. 8-11 p.m.

Sunday, August 28

Sunday Souns at Chateau Morrisette Winery, 287 Winery Rd, just off the Parkway at milepost 171 from 1-5 p.m.

Sunday Music Jam at The Floyd Country Store, 206 S. Locust St., 1:30 – 6 p.m.

Open Mic at Dogtown Roadhouse, 302 S. Locust, 6-10 p.m.
