A heavy blanket of snow tends to white out color in our landscape but some still peeks through whether it be the brown of a bush and a tree in our front yard (above) or the green of a tree along Storker’s Knob road (right).
The thick, wet snow that fell on most of Virginia Monday left 8-10 inches in Floyd County, closing schools, restaurants and stores. Schools remain closed today and many back roads still need attention and some events may also be cancelled. Our mail, which normally arrives before 9 a.m., did not appear until mid-afternoon amd a snow scraper finally showed up on Sandy Flats Road around 4 p.m.
With temperatures hovering just below 27 degrees and a howling wind outside as I write this, my guess is we will find ice on the roads when daylight arrives.
Winter in the mountains. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
