Snow? Maybe; Cold? Absolutely

Yes, we could see this moving into the area late Friday night and into Saturday.

After a reasonably warm day in Southwestern Virginia Tuesday, residents in Floyd County awake to a low at or just under 50 degrees as 6 am. approaches — the forecast says that will be the high as the thermometer starts a plunge that will send temperatures down in the 30s by 4 p.m. and to freezing by 7.

An overnight low of 22 or so is followed by highs in the 30s Thursday and even colder on Friday and a chance of snow showers on Saturday with more cold on Sunday.

Bitter cold means could haunt and affect the annual Chance Harman Memorial charity basketball game on Friday and Saturday.

Forecasts of snow shifted several times over the past few days with the chance of white stuff at 50 percent overnight on Friday when the low if projected at 10 or 11 degrees, then a high of 21 or so on Saturday and 5 degrees overnight heading in Sunday.

While the expectations of snow is a “maybe or maybe not” on Saturday, the forecasters agree that it will be very cold and very winter like.

Let’s be careful out there.
