Big basketball wins at home, on the road

Floyd County’s Buffaloes and Lady Buffs delivered a double knockout blow against the Giles Spartans Wednesday night with the boys beating the Spartans 78-63 before a home crowd while the ladies bested the Giles team 81-47 in Pearisburg.

At the FCHS gym, the boys broke a tie early in the game and recovered more than once as Dustin Thompson scored 27 points, Cayden Sutphin downed 15 and Cooper Neukirch added 13.  Thompson had four three point goals and Sutphin and Neukirch three each.

The JV Buffaloes fell well behind Giles in the first quarter, closed in the second but faltered in the second half and went down 55-42 at the end.

In Pearisburg, five Lady Buffs scored in double figures, lead by Ali Belsham with 18 points, Mallary Cox collected 15, Michaela Thompson 11, Rebecca Turman and Cassidy Pratt 10 apiece.

The Lady Buffs had six three-point goals split between Cox and Thompson at three each, in the 81-47 win.  The JV Lady Buffs won too.

The Lady Buffs return to FCHS Friday night for a match against James River.
