The new window sign for Blue Ridge Cafe. What was old is now new again.

Two new signs in downtown Floyd highlight changes in the community.

The clock and thermometer remains with the new name of the Bank of Floyd.

Over the weekend, signs for Bank of Floyd disappeared as the new logo and name for Skyline National Bank went up on the building of the longtime financial institution next to the county courthouse.

Just across Main Street from the bank and courthouse, Blue Ridge Restaurant became Blue Ridge Cafe, a return to the eating establishment’s original name from many years ago.

What once was the headquarters of Bank of Floyd is now a branch of Skyline National, the regional financial institution of the merger of Grayson National in Independence and the Floyd operation.  The merged banks now have branches that run from the Roanoke Valley, New River Valley, Wytheville and other parts of Southwestern Virginia.

The new owner of Blue Ridge Cafe plans to start work on remodeling the restaurant in a building that once housed a bank and uses an old bank vault for cold storage.  Biggest change?  A return to dinner hours.
