FloydFest through her eyes. (All photos by Doug Thompson)

The upcoming weekend is the last before FloydFest opens its run for 2017 just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and the area in and around Floyd is expected to be hot with visits by those pesky thunderstorms that are part of our weather patterns this summer.

It will be hot this weekend but 10 day forecast for next week looking like it will be slightly cooler with highs in the low 80s in Floyd and possibly a few degrees less up on the Blue Ridge with the fun and games at FloydFest.

The high in Floyd County on this July day is in the upper 80s and probably over 90.  Just down the mountain in Roanoke, it will be well into the 90s and the temperatures have already flirted with 100.

The forecast from the National Weather Service office in Blacksburg predicts hot and partly cloudy for Thursday, hot again on Friday with scattered thunderstorms and that is expected to be the norm throughout the weekend.  Roanoke expects highs in the mid 90s for the coming days and the same if forecast for other lower elevations.

FloydFest arrives next week for four days in the mountains just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and the forecast looks like isolated thunderstorms on Wednesday, a.m. showers on Thursday and partly cloudy on Friday and possible scattered thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday.

Drink your liquids and keep an umbrella handy.  Have a happy and safe weekend.
