Power went out to 2,173 Floyd customers of Appalachian Power at 5:37 a.m. Thursday morning, leaving people without electricity in an area that ran from Indian Valley towards Alum Ridge and Eastward past Rte. 8 and over to Pilot.
The Appalachian Power web site said a vehicle accident knocked the power out. Company officials say the problem started with the accident but a substation problem complicated restoring the power. A spokesman a little after 8 a.m. EDT said he hoped power would be restrored later n the morning but would not say exactly when. The web site at 11:39 a.m. Thursday reported fewer than five outages left.
Watching and will update as the situation changes.
