Labor Day Weekend 2017 arrives and officially starts Friday in and around Floyd County and Southwestern Virginia.

The Floyd Radio Show returns after its summer break with music, skits and more at the Floyd County Store at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

In Hillsville, the large crowds arrive at the annual Flea Market and Gun Show Friday through Monday.

Floyd Yoga Jam provides music, arts, crafts and, of course, yoga in Indian Valley Thursday through Monday.

And rain is expected from the remnants of Hurricane Harvey as it carves its way northeast from Texas and Louisiana.

Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer.  Have fun and be sale.

  1. Regarding your post stating the confederate flag is a symbol of slavery and racism, read the letter to the editor on this subject in the Floyd Press.

Regarding the civil war being over slavery, read Paul Craig Roberts:
    http://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2017/08/23/know-called-civil-war-not-slavery/

Oops, propornot identified Paul as a Russian operative, never mind.

Lincoln was a racist, and wanted to send blacks back to Africa. The emancipation proclamation applied to southern slaves only, not ones in territory he controlled. It was an attempt to foment a slave uprising in the south to provide an advantage to the north.
