The unbeaten season of Floyd County High School’s football varsity Buffaloes ended Friday night at home with hard trouncing by the Giles Spartan 38-17.

Giles hit the scoreboard in its first possession with a 37-yard field goal, giving the Spartans a lead it never lost.

A fumble on a punt left the Spartans with a first down on Floyd’s 15 and the score that followed made it 10-0 Floyd, however, scored in he second quarter when the Buffaloes stripped the ball from the Spartans and Drew Wood scrambled 50 yards to cut the lead to 10-7 but Giles drove down the field on their next possession to make it 17-7.

Then Floyd cut the lead to 17-10 with a three pointer but Ryan Beidleman of Giles took the ensuing kickoff back for a 95 yard return and the score was 24-10.

Floyd added a touchdown in the second half but Giles added two more and the night ended at 38-17 The loss leaves the Buffs at 4-1 overall so far in the season but 0-1 in the district and they fave Carroll County in Hillsville next week.
