Buffs beat Gretna in frigid playoff opener

Floyd County High School’s football Buffaloes ransacked the Gretna Hawks 35-12 at home in a frigid Friday night to take the first round of the Region 2C playoffs.

Floyd took the lead with a three-yard run by Jarrett Agee in the first quarter and never looked back. Gretna, scored in the second quarter but came away with no extra points and Floyd answered back with two touchdowns (a two-yard by Agee again and a one by quarterback Ian Bary along with a two-point conversion) to lead at 21-6 at the half.

The Buffaloes added seven points in the third quarter and the extra point and then Presley Yates scored on a five-yard run in the fourth. Gretna scored once in the second half but with two failed kicks could only muster 12 points for the game.

Yates ran for 222 yards for night, Bary had 73 and Agee 60 for Floyd’s first playoff victory since 2008 and it came by beating the team that the Buffaloes lost to that year in the state championship final.

The Buffaloes face Glenvar next week in the second round.
