Could be rain…or sleet…or ice…or…

Call it a mixed blessing.  The temperature on this Monday will climb above freezing as part of a warming trend but it comes with a ‘winter weather advisory that could include freezing rain, sleet, snow that might leave a slick mess on the road.

The National Weather Service expects the mess to arrive around 10 a.m. and drop the wet and frozen stuff on us through the day and into the evening.

However, temperatures are expected to raise over freezing around 11 a.m. and stay in the mid 30s through the night with precipitation ending in the wee hours of the morning Tuesday.

A swing of a few degrees by the thermometer, however, could mean the difference between a wet day or a slick and freezing one.

Floyd County Schools are closed, along with many other systems in the area.

The precipitation may begin as a period of snow and sleet, then transition to rain and freezing rain depending on the surface temperature at that time.
