A little snow and lots of cold

Snow falling, schools closed, temperature well below freezing and a wind chill to lower it even more.  Another period in the winter that is here one day and gone the next.

Light snow began to fall around 4 a.m. Wednesday and began to coat the roads in Floyd County with the National Weather Service in Blacksburg posting a “wind chill advisory” along with a “special weather statement.”

Snow is expected to end between noon and 1 p.m. Wednesday with temperatures in the high teens with wind chills close to zero.  Winds that bring the already cold temperatures down are forecast to continue until 10 a.m. Thursday, which is projected to warm a bit up to about 38 degrees.

Then warmer Friday (48 high, 23 low), Saturday (53 high, 34 low) and Sunday (54 high).

Floyd County public schools closed for Wednesday.
