Seasonal cold as February approaches

Stay warm and enjoy the weekend.

Showers continue through Monday afternoon with a high around 44 degrees in Floyd County before the thermometer plunges to below freezing overnight for a high of 21 and a cold Tuesday that will top out at 28 and a low of 15.

Then we’re back in the 40s for Wednesday and Thursday followed by a cold Friday with a high in the upper 20s and a low of 16.

By Sunday, the area could see rain and some snow.

Welcome to February.

For the time being, the outlook does not signal a return of the brutal cold of the early days of 2018.  Days will be cold but the outlook is more seasonable for February — so far.

Weather forecasts, however, change and Mother Nature is prone to changing her mind.

Ice shows up in the forecast for Feb. 7 from the National Weather Service Office in Blacksburg but with a projected daytime high of 43 that could also bring melting.

Keep your fingers crossed and stay warm.
