Floyd County High School’s Lady Buffaloes spent nearly all of the first half trailing William Fleming, closing the score to a three-point deficit by the break, then outscored the Lady Colonels in the last two quarters to end regulation play tied at 64.
Then Fleming outscored the Buffs at the foul line in overtime, connecting on 10 of 12 shots at the free throw line while Floyd could only connect on four of 10 attempts and went down 76-70 in a hard fought game that brought 68 fouls, four technicals and four players each fouling out by the end.
Floyd’s Abi Belshan, honored before the game as one of five seniors, scred 20 points for the night while two other seniors — Michaela Thompson and Cassidy Pratt — scored 12 points each and foul out during the game.
The junior varsity Lady Buffs did not have any problems building an early lead and pulling away to a 30+ point margin to beat Fleming.
