Tried out the newly-reopened Pine Tavern Restaurant last night. Some friends who had tried it loved it while others found the food uninspired.
Perhaps the inconsistency comes from being new. We found the food fantastic with excellent service and a convivial atmosphere for a fun evening.
The new Pine offers two choices for dinner: Homestyle dining or off the menu dishes like catfish, chicken, meatloaf and other delicacies.
We tried the homestyle menu: Fried chicken, country ham and roast beef with veggies, beverage and dessert (cherry cobbler) for $12 a person. You can also get chicken and ham or roast beef for $11 a head.
The chicken, moist and delicious. The roast beef, rare and tasty (just the way Amy likes it). The country ham, good with just the right touch of salt. Add a plethora of veggies including succotash, dumplings, two varieties of beans and fluffy, tasty mashed potatoes and we ate ourselves into pain, so much that neither of us could finish the cherry cobbler with ice cream.
The new Pine opens at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. We might see you there because we will be back.
