Lady Buffaloes go down in district final

Floyd County’s Lady Buffaloes ran head-on into first seeded Carroll County Tuesday night for the Three River District championship but the loss provides little more than bragging rights for the Lady Cavaliers as regional match-ups were already set and Floyd opens at home Friday night against James River.

Carroll County moved into the Three Rivers District this year and beat Floyd twice during the regular season and now stands at 20-3.  They lead the Lady Buffaloes 17-10 in the first quarter, but the Lady Buffaloes trimmed that lead to five by the half and held the Cavs to an six-point lead by the end of the third quarter but Carroll County outscored them 25-6 in the fourth quarter to take a 72-47 victory.

Abi Belshan led scoring with 14 points, followed by Michaela Thompson with 13.

In other regional action Friday, the boys face Chatham on the road for their first regional game.
