
Most local high school sports kick off this week as the Floyd County High Schools hit the football field with a season opener in Christiansburg and the volleyball lady Buffaloes play away at Fort Chiswell Tuesday night and at home Thursday against Patrick County.
Golf has been underway for a week or so and the JV boys tee off against Patrick Henry at Roanoke Country Club at 4:00 p.m. Monday and James River Thursday at Botetourt Golf Club against James River at 1:00 p.m. Thursday.
The varsity golfers play Carroll County at Old Mill Golf Course Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. and face Magna Vista at Great Oaks Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
Middle school footballers face Christiansburg at home Thursday at 5:30 p.m., followed by junior varsity at 7:00.
Football varsity Buffaloes open their season Friday against the Blue Demons of Chrstiansburg. Kickoff at 7:00 p.m. The team returns home next week against Patrick County.
Cross country also gets underway next week with a match against Giles in Pearisburg Wednesday and in Christiansburg on Saturday.
