Jared Nichols fires off a pass to Tyler Fenton for a gain in first quarter action.

Floyd County High School’s varsity football Buffaloes downed Patrick County 27-7 at a home opener before an enthusiastic crowd Friday night.

Presley Yates piled up 106 yards on 17 carries and Hunter Adkins ran for three touchdowns as the Buffs took the lead in the second quarter with a touchdown and two-point conversion and added a second score and extra point and carry a 15-0 lead at halftime.

Touchdowns in the third and fourth quarter added to pending shutout of the visiting Cougars before Patrick County caught a touchdown pass from William Sprawl with four seconds remaining on the game clock and closed out the night with the extra point for the final score.

The win puts the Buffs at 1-1.  They face Auburn at home next Friday at 7 p.m.
