Floyd County is sending its elementary school students home at 11:30 a.m. Thursday and the high school at noon as the National Weather Service upgraded its Floyd Watch to a warning.

Heavy rains continue to all in the county and Southwestern Virginia as Hurricane Michael, now downgraded to a tropical storm, roars into the Carolinas, which are still trying to recover from Hurricane Florence last month.

The varsity volleyball home game and senior night celebration Thursday evening is also postponed.

Developing…we will keep watching.
