Buffs, Lady Buffs win semi-final matches

Cayden Sutphine scores two of his 23 points.

Both the Buffaloes and Lady Buffaloes head into Three Rivers District title games Thursday night after convincing wins in semi-final matches Wednesday.

The boys reversed regular season losses to Glenvar in the semi-final match at the Roanoke County school, hitting three-pointers from many sections of the court, collecting solid rebounds and other good defensive plays.

Cayden Sutphin dropped in 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds while brother Tanyan added 14 points and Noah Bolt has seven blocks, six rebounds and a steal to seal the 59-42 win.

Coach Brian Harman called the game “a huge win” and must now face top-seeded Radford on their home court for the final.

At home in Floyd Wednesday, the Lady Buffaloes took a semi-final win over Alleghany 63-50 and faces Carroll County in the district final in Hillsville Thursday evening.

Alexis Kiser led FCHS scoring with 20 points and 13 rebounds while Aimee Whitlow added 12.

Whatever the outcome Thursday, the Buffs and the Lady Buffs open Regional tournament play Monday night with the girls at home against James River while the boys face Fort Chiswell on their home turf.

Mitchell Thompson hits a three=point goal.
Noah Bolt eyes another rebound.
