Lady Buffaloes capture Region 2C softball title

Another Lady Buffaloes celebration for another big win.

Floyd County High Schol’s Lady Buffaloes softball team took the Region 2C title Friday with a 7-6 win over Dan River at the Botetourt Sports Complex at Daleville.

The win lets Floyd host the opening round of the state tournament Tuesday against the winner of a Saturday Region 2D match between Lebanon and Richlands.  The Lady Buffs last appeared in the state tournament in 2015.

Aimee Whitlow’s single in the sixth inning brought in two runs that put Floyd into the lead.  Madison Harris also had two runs and to RBIs.

Floyd took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scored again in the third.  Appomattox finally got on the board with one run in the fourth, then four in the top of the fifth to take the lead 5-3 but Floyd one run in the bottom of the fifth and added three more in the sixth.  Appomattox added only one run in the seventh and Floyd had the win.

The region win and state title berth came in Lady Buff’s coach Meaghan Funk’s first season at the helm.
