While the calendar says summer ends when we head into the third week of September, the “traditional” end comes on Labor Day, but for students at Floyd County public schools, summer ends on Tuesday morning next week when classes begin.
That’s less than a week from now and the upcoming second weekend of August is, for all practical purposes, the final weekend of summer for elementary and high school students in Floyd County.
So what’s to do? Get out and celebrate. We’re still celebrating 50 Years of Love in the Old Dominion and there’s music galore plus arts & crafts and other things to do.
The weekend looks relatively dry, according to current forecasts — which could change — and provide a place for music on the street (Locust Street) on Friday night, along with The Friday Night Jamboree and music at Dogtown and the Buffalo Mountain Brewery, plus the artisan fair.
Saturday brings the Farmers Market, free afternoon music at the Floyd Country Store, the Black Dog Beach Music Fair at the Nancy Morrisette Festival Field on Black Ridge Road as well as concerts at the Country Store, Wildwood General Store, Dogtown and Buffalo Mountain Brewery.
