Floyd County High School’s varsity Buffaloes football team scored two touchdowns, including a 92-yard kickoff return by Tyler Fenton, and added two extra-point afters on each, to put 16 points on the board against the Blue Demons of Christiansburg in the season opener at home Friday night.

But penalties wiped out a first touchdown that would have given Floyd a lead. After a scoreless first quarter for both teams, Christiansburg scored first in the second quarter and led 21-8 at the half.  Penalties and mistakes kept the Buffs in the hole against a team that put 35 points on the board in a lopsided loss.

Counting the benefit loss against Galax the week before, the Buffaloes have lost three touchdowns from penalties.

Braden Chaffin had 52 rushing yards for Floyd bu Maston Stanley of the Blue Demons racked up 181 yards.

Braden Chaffin’s touchdown that wasn’t: called back by a Buffalo penalty. Chaffin ran for 52 yards on other plays.
