Tough game, tough loss for the football Buffs

In a tough game against Glenvar, the Floyd County Buffaloes came back twice to tie the score after Highlanders scored twice in the first half, but then Glenvar added 14 more points for a 28-14 lead at the half.

The Buffaloes tried to come back with another score in the third quarter to make it 21-14 but Glenvar added a touch down with a successful extra point and 33-yard field goal to lead 38-21 at end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, both the Buffaloes and Highlanders scored twice, giving Floyd 35 points to Glenvar’s 52,

Buffaloes quarterback Avery Chaffin completed eight passes for 147 yards and four touchdowns.  A 77-yard pass to Caleb Webb was the Buffaloes’ first score.  The loss Friday gives the Buffaloes a 4-4 overall and 2-2 district record so far his season.

The Buffs head to Buchanan to face James River next Friday and return home to face Radford on Nov. 1 for Senior Night.

(Correction: An earlier version of this story had Tyler Fenton throwing the 77-yard pass to Caleb Webb. Quarterback Avery Chaffin tossed the ball to Fenton after the snap but Fenton tossed it back to Chaffin, who threw the long pass. It was one of four TD passes in the game. The incorrect information came from a scoring report who reported Fenton throwing the pass. It was wrong and so was I. My apologies to Avery, his family and his fans.)
