Floyd County High School’s varsity football Buffaloes ran into the pulverizing Glenvar Highlanders Friday night in the first round of Region 2C playoffs and came way with just a late fourth quarter touchdown and minus 27 yards of running offense in a 42-7 rout.
Glenvar took control of the game from the start, leading 14-0 in the first quarter, 28-0 at the half, 35-0 at the end of the third quarter and 42-0 in the fourth before Buffaloes quarterback Avery Chaffin connected with Tyler Fenton on a 50-yard pass for their only score. Chaffin had eight out of 15 attempts in passing for 1-3 yards, with nearly half of that on the sole touchdown pass. Glenvar QB Alden Wolk completed 11 of his 15 attempts for 176 yard.
Glenvar junior Jeb Secrist, returning to play this year for the first time since 5th grade, caught four of Wolk’s TD passes with a total of 101 yards receiving for then night. Floyd’s Fenton had more pass reception yardage (102) but 50 of those came from the Buffaloes’ sole touchdown.
Glenvar also aced the running game with 41 carries and 195 yards. Floyd ad minus 25 yards on 15 carries.
The loss ends Floyd’s season for this year with a 6-5 record.
